Kirsty – Nail Technician
Kirsty is our go-to person for all your gel nail requirements; she has a Diploma in Beauty, Body & Spa Therapies and has been working here at Unique Skin and Body for the past three years. Kirsty always wanted to do ‘something’ in the beauty field and started out as a make-up artist. However, she discovered her preferences lay elsewhere, had a slight change of direction, and now performs a range of treatments here at Unique including her favourites: waxing and nails … especially gel nails!
The GelBottle Gel Nails
We use The GelBottle products – they’re beautiful, high-quality polishes with a huge range of rich colours – something for everyone! The colours are highly pigmented, chip-resistant and don’t shrink on the nail plate. Using The GelBottle, you only need 2-3 coats, whereas other polishes can require 5-6 coats to get the right colour.
The GelBottle polish lasts up to two – four weeks offering long-lasting shine. Although some of our customers prefer to have their nails infilled or reapplied every two weeks, most choose to have them refreshed after four weeks.
Does Wearing Gel Polish Affect Your Nails?
There are no negatives … only positives! During the application of gel nails, there’s no damage to the nail bed. In fact, having a gel polish will keep your nails strong and healthy – even if you have weak, brittle nails, you’ll notice an improvement.
Gel nails have no detriment effect on your nails – they enhance and support them. The only harm that can be done to your nails is if you start to pick the polish off … so NO PICKING! We can safely remove – or repair – your polish for you here at the salon.
After application, gel nails are ‘set’ under an LED lamp – although the light is warm, there’s not enough heat or light to penetrate your skin or cause any injury here either.
The Best Way to Remove Gel Polish
Naturally, some of you will only want the occasional gel polish – perhaps for that special occasion … an interview, holiday, conference, wedding or special outing, etc. And then, after a few weeks, you’ll be wanting to remove your polish. Although the salon is ideal, it is possible to remove your gel polish at home if you really want to. This is assuming you haven’t had extensions which use a builder that is best removed professionally. Kirsty can advise you what’s best for you and your nails – just have a chat with her. Whatever you do, remember … picking your polish off will damage your nails.
Tips to Extend the Life of Your Gel Nails
We recommend that for the first 24-48 hours, you wear gloves when washing dishes, and avoid heat, which can make the colour duller – this allows your gorgeous new nails time to ‘set’ fully … then you should have no problems.
